They are more mobile than astromech droids, and have no mounting. Rather, they are expected to move across the surface of the vehicle they are assigned to, and repair problems as they encounter them. They have become quite popular over the last few years, and up to five of them can be seen on a single walker, leading to their common name of "tickbirds" which they do resemble.
