I, angry, hurt, and confused at WEG for not providing us gamers with a droid template that wasn't stupid, have made this droid type. It's kind of like Data from Star Trek, but not so naive. Also, it's not an android. Not as strong, either. Come to think of it, the only thing it has in common with Data is that it's cool... ;) (that is, only if you think Data is cool. Which, in my opinion, by the way, he is. Without a doubt, the best thing about Star Trek. (not saying much, admittedly...) Also, included are my homemade stats for MD-5, just in case any of you think that the ol' FX-7 and 2-1B combo is too outdated for your likes... So, without further ado, submitted for your approval, is Yubyadub Robotic Labs of Tattooine, unltd's YA-5 "X McDroid X." NOTES: ("X McDroid X" is the name for the droid, but "X" is where a first name or last name would go. McDroid is just the middle name. The droids get to pick their first and last names themselves.) some advice from Yabudabud YubYadub, indirect creator of the droid: "Don't ever letcherself git named by one o'dem Jawa critters." Well, anyway. Before I get too far off topic, here's the stats. STORY FACTORS: Yabudabud YubYadub, the founder of YubYadub Robotic Labs, ltd., is the genius behind this creation. The YA-5 is one of the top of the line models available, and the price tag shows it. Yabudabud designed this droid to complement his YY Yards shipbuilding industry; his non-droid employees were not doing as good as he had hoped on problem testing each ship that came out, they lacked the ability to compute physics in their heads. Yabudabud sensed a need for something that could compute physics in its head that Yabudabud would: 1) not have to talk to, 2) not have to pay wages to, 3) not have to feed, 4) not have to give a room to, and most importantly, 5) not have to fix. Yabudabud considered his options. His ex-wife almost "fit da bill to da tee," as he stated himself, but she lacked "da ability ta compertate fizzicks in her noggin." Jawas were also considered, but options #1, #3, and #4 kind of scared him. Plus, Yabudabud didn't relish the Jawa's way of "compertatin' fizzicks." After many sleepless nights, Yabudabud decided to create a superior droid. After scavenging his back yard for old droid parts, motivators, and logic units, and gathering a few old droids that he bought dirt-cheap from a Jawa Sandcrawler, he set to work interweaving the innovations of every droid that he bought. He wanted a droid as mobile as a human, smarter than a human, able to take care of itself, and able to upgrade itself. Initially on YA-0, Yabudabud failed on all of his goals, except for the last one. Yabudabud was nonetheless elated with his new droid and would even talk to him (the droid developed a personality of its own, but that's hard to avoid when one is around Yabudabud for extended periods of time) for a spell. One day, while the two were conversing, the topic turned to bragging rights. Yabudabud was trying to outdo Yayoh by bragging of his creation of the droid. "Ahse been figgerin, ah's got you over bah billdin you. Dat's worth braggin fer, eh?" stated Yabudabud. "Bah," stated the droid. If _I_ was designing me, I would have been at least twice as good. Look at me. My sensors package has an inadequate balance sensor, My gross motor skills are all herky-jerky, and I'm about as sturdy as a glass house. I bet you five years of servitude that I could whip your ass at droid design." stated Yayoh. (Yayoh casually neglected to mention the fact that he had only four years of service on his contract, thus leaving Yabudabud with one year of servitude to the droid) The droid easily beat Yabudabud, and the resulting YA-1 was a sight better than Yayoh. Yayone then decided to up the other two in return for HIS freedom, and of course he succeeded, and so on. Yayfive is somewhere near the pinnacle of droid design. The Yayfive models also defy degree classification. They can program themselves to do surgery, they can upgrade themselves to have welders, scalpels, extra sensors, weapons, they can do space flight, they can be engineers, designers, etc. Yayfive is aware of this, and although he could get his freedom easily by creating yet another droid, he knows that he could make a lot more money by hiring himself out to the highest bidder. Interestingly enough, Yabudabud gave the droids plenty of leeway when it came to committing acts against the law. YA series droids are merely reluctant to cause harm. They CAN do harm to organics if the situation requires it. But they feel REALLY guilty about it afterwards. ;) Ostensibly, Yabudabud programmed it this way so that the droids wouldn't be destroyed due to inaction in the face of combat. In any event, Yayfive Prime went out on his own, starting with only 212cr to his name, had attained upper-management position at the bustling Mos Eisley spaceport within five months, as well as twenty-five percent ownership of the best cantina chain in all of Tattooine, as well as a third-place kickboxing trophy. With Yayfive Prime's success in the business world, Yabudabud realized the potential for this droid, and had his droids, led by the knowledgable pouissant and sage Yayfour, run his YubYadub Robotics Labs, unltd. to put out a batch of YA-5s. YA-4 did so, making about twenty YA-5s. The new YA-5s were sold to droid outlets throughout the sector, but a problem soon arose. The Yayfives tended to chafe under authority; meaning, they didn't like being property. So, Yayfour devised a devious marketing plan. When a person bought a droid, they actually only bought the rights to employ it, having to pay the Yayfive at least one-half the salary as any non-droid. (half of their salary has to go to YYRL, unltd. until their 15kcr debt is paid of) The plan worked, and YA-5s are starting to spread throughout the space lanes. on a related note: The Yayfive Prime's business card presently reads: (this is not an embellishment, either...) "Robert M. Varanius III, esq., .D., B.A." "Entrepreneur, Attorney-At-Law, Security Consultant," "Registered Preacher, Doctor of Music, Bodyguard," "City Councilperson, and Vice-Presidential Candidate." "Mos Eisley, Tattooine BD-4-1534231a" OBJECTIVES: (in order of importance, quite probably...) 1. to make lots of money. 2. to be the hippest droid this side of Tochi Station. 3. to pick a cool name. 4. to fool stupid organics into thinking that it's a protocol droid. QUOTES: 1. "No, really. I'm just a protocol droid." 2. "You have made me slightly displeasured." 3. "Give me all of your money." 4. "Boy, I hate them fancy lads." 5. "Well, what do you know. That's MY name, too." DROID CHARACTERISTICS: Droid Type : YA-5 "X McDroid X" Built by : YubYadub Robotic Labs of Tattooine, unltd.
