In return for his loyalty, Kelvin was rewarded with a position of leadership in Palpatine's personal security forces, the Stormtroopers. In addition to having a need for a ultra-loyal and effective fighting force, Kelvin recognized the need for them to have a mysterious and foreboding image. To attain this, he set engineers to the task of designing a suit of armor that would achieve the goal. After the Republic fell and the Empire expanded, Lord Kelvin continually worked to improve the quantity and quality of the Stormtroopers, much to the Emperors delight. As part of this program, armor upgrades were included. As they currently stand, the stormtroopers are some of the best "mass-produced" armored troops in known space. The only real threat to them is military quality weapons and accurate rebel shooters. Take into consideration that this is a field briefing. For detailed information on Imperial Stormtrooper armor, check with unit SFIntelligence officer. * * * The stormtrooper armor is a complex unit of pieces that are simple to wear and use. While the pieces may be used by themselves for the most part, they are only truly effective when worn as a complete suit. MODEL: Imperial Stormtrooper IX-2 TYPE: Personal Body Armor COST: Not for sale AVAILABILITY: Special Basic Suit: Covers head, torso, arms, legs. Provides +4D to strength for physical attacks. +4D to all energy attacks. No dexterity penalty due to a micro-exoskeleton that laces the body glove. A stormtrooper's training in conjunction with the suit's sensor's give the wearer +3 to hit on all standard rolls. Helmet Features: -Tongue toggle switch for multi channel helmet comlink. Enlisted troopers have 24 channels, NCO and officers have 48. -Macrobinoculars. Range up to 1 kilometer. Provide compass bearing and distance. -Breathmask. Even though the armor can be environmentally sealed (even to the point of being used as a space suit), it's common practice to use the filters when planetside or shipboard. In each helmet cheek is a filter to screen out air impurities and gases. The filters are energized with a minute electrical charge to repel airborne particles while a micro-compressor overpressurizes the air around the filters to keep gases out. This quasi-redundant system more than meets requirements. -Linked to the Multi-Frequency Targeting and Acquisition System (MFTAS) and to a micro-processor in the helmet's forefront, is a sensor that emits a scanner beam which detects and then reads the personal identity card required for all Imperial citizens and troops. A heads-up-display (HUD) then projects the person's name and citizen or troop number over one of the optics in the helmet. At this moment, only Stormtroopers have access to this item as standard issue. -Infra-red/Ultra violet scanner. Through the offset eyepieces, a nano-projector emits an alternating (at user's discretion) infra- red or ultra-violet beam (like a flashlight) that allows them to see in the UV/IR spectrum with clarity like daylight. -In addition to the IR/UV scanner, the eyepieces are fitted with starlight/lowlight optic packages which allow the stormtrooper to see in the dark with next to no disadvantages. *Note: All helmet sensors are hooked into the MFTAS unit located in the chestplate. Body Glove: -Acts as a climate controlled body glove which allows for comfortable use in relatively warm and cold weather. -A micronized exoskeleton laces the body glove providing extra support and coordination for armor wearer. It only strengthens enough to reduce movement penalties and not does not increase the wearer's physical strength for lifting or fighting. -The bodyglove can also functions as an environment suit when worn with the armor plating. It can be worn in a vacuum for a limited time (till the compressed liquid nitrogen packs in the armor run out) about 4 hours. Armor Pieces: -In the breast plate, is a Multi-Frequency Targeting and Acquisition System (MFTAS) which gives the +3D to all Perception checks in darkness, smoke, and other visibility obscuring conditions.
