Date: Mon, 20 Mar 1995 13:22:04 -0600 (CST) From: "\"Chris Erickson-Lovejoy\"" A few chemical slugthrowers and other non-blaster weapons plus commentary on each weapon. Please note, these are weapons I designed as an exercise of speculative fiction. I wanted to come up with "guns for Starwars" that weren't blasters. These guns were designed for environments where blasters would be dangerous to use; therefore, these represent the "vanguard" of Imperial non-blaster technology. WEAPON TYPE: Flechette Launcher MODEL: XM-19 Flechette rifle SCALE: Character SKILL: Flechette launcher AMMO: 50 "shells" COST: 2,000 [50 per clip] AVAILABILITY: 4, X FIRE RATE: 4 RANGE: 5-25/100/250 DAMAGE: 5D/4D/3D (*special) BLAST RADIUS: .5/1/2 NOTES: The principle behind the XM-19 is simple, each round is a shell packed with 30 durasteel slivers. The shell discards after launch, forming a large cloud of lethal slivers. The slivers are particularly deadly as they can fragment on impact. These micro-fragments are difficult to remove, even by the most skilled of medical droids. *(in game terms on a roll of 5 or 6 on the wild die damage is DOUBLED) The XM-19 works only on UNARMORED targets. If a target has at least 1D vs physical, armor on an area, the hit does 2D stun damage only. Regarding semi-armored targets, use the hit location table to determine the effect. LOVEJOY'S COMMENT: The XM-19 is a particularly vicious anti-personnel weapon. Originally designed for hunting, this weapon found favor as a riot gun in the CSA. This weapon has also found its way into the hands of many swoop gangs and slavers as a terror weapon. The XM-19 is completely useless against armored targets, like Stormtroopers or bounty hunters. This is the sort of weapon that no self-respecting adventurer would ever use. WEAPON TYPE: Chemical Slugthrower Rifle MODEL: AR-50 Vulcan 5.56m SCALE: Character SKILL: Firearms AMMO: 2, 30 round magazines COST: 1,500 [75 per clip] AVAILABILITY: 3, R FIRE RATE: 5 RANGE: 5-25/100/250 [explosive rounds] 10-50/200/500 [sabot rounds] DAMAGE: 5D [explosive rounds] 3D+2 but reduces armor by 2D [sabot rounds] NOTES: The AR-50 is a multipurpose weapon. With two magazines, it fires explosive rounds and sabot rounds. The AR-50 can be fired in space and includes an LCD readout of ammunition remaining. It also can be linked to the "Cyberbrain" sensor helmet, with no extra equipment. In this mode, it gives a warning tone when 5 shots remain in a magazine. The only weakness is that the sabot isn't "armed" at point blank range. (in game terms, the sabot rounds does 2D+2 stun damage at ranges under 1.5 Meters) LOVEJOY'S COMMENT: The Vulcan is a good rifle. It is the closest thing to a blaster, when you can't get a blaster. The Vulcan is good in space or planetside, however, it can't be fired underwater. The helmet link is a great strength. This thing has saved my butt, more than a couple of times. WEAPON TYPE: Chemical Slugthrower Pistol MODEL: Gleck-17 9m SCALE: Character SKILL: Firearms AMMO: 15 COST: 700 [50 per clip] AVAILABILITY: 3, R FIRE RATE: 5 RANGE: 2/5/10 DAMAGE: 5D NOTES: The Gleck-17 is a close range weapon with terrific power. The Gleck has been vacuum sealed and can safely be fired in space. It is also equipped with recoil springs for zero gee environments. LOVEJOY'S COMMENT: The Gleck is a real hand-cannon. At point blank range, it can hole ST armor. It is perfect for hand to hand fighting or crowd control, as its flash and noise are quite noticeable. It does lack at long range, and the user should remember that fact. The other advantage is that its poly-carbon construction and uncommon ammunition make it almost undetectable by some weapons scanners. WEAPON TYPE: Anti-Walker Recoilless Rifle MODEL: Cracken A-6 "Splut Gun" SCALE: Walker SKILL: Missile Weapons AMMO: 1 COST: 300 AVAILABILITY: 3, X FIRE RATE: 1 RANGE: 25-100/200/300 DAMAGE: 8D NOTES: The A-6 is a single use heavy weapon, designed to destroy ATATs. The weapon fires 4 shaped charge warheads in a single burst, designed to punch a hole in a walker and fill it with plasma. The A-6 works equally well against massed troops, armor, bunkers, or Spacetroopers. The A-6 is wire guided and the firer must keep locked on to the target until impact. Note, due to the backwash, the A-6 should not be fired in an enclosed area. (in game terms, 4D speeder scale concussion damage to firer and anyone near) The A-6 is a jury-rigged weapon, use at own risk. LOVEJOY'S COMMENT: The Battle of Hoth taught us one thing: Walkers are the one enemy of ground troops. Gen. Cracken and I, came up with a weapon that will even the odds. The A-6 is not a "safe" weapon. The only thing that can be said is that the firer should NOT fire near any enclosed area. It takes a lot of courage to use this weapon; to stand exposed to walker fire while the projectile tracks. I am sadden by the losses in these new anti-walker units and I hope to come up with a "fire and forget" version very soon. WEAPON TYPE: Portable Railgun MODEL: Igon-Stance vt100 SCALE: Character SKILL: Firearms: railgun AMMO: 600 COST: 5,000 AVAILABILITY: 4, (not classified) FIRE RATE: 1/3/10* RANGE: 3-30/50/200 DAMAGE: 3D/4D+2/6D NOTES: The Igon is the finest in portable railgun technology. The Igon uses two small electro-magnets to accelerate small durasteel pellets to great speeds before launching them. The rail gun is a backpack/gunmount unit with HUD goggles. The gunmount allows almost anyone to carry this heavy weapon. The Igon can fire 1, 3, or 10 round bursts. (in game terms, the Igon is +1D to hit, however it also requires a strength of 3D+2 to even use. Under 5D strength, the wearer must make a stamina roll every hour to carry the unit. The size and bulk of the unit reduce the move by 2 and the dodge by 2D.) LOVEJOY'S COMMENT: The Igon is a great new weapon, if you're a wookie. Most people would be advised to mount this thing on a vehicle. However, its stopping power puts it almost on par with the E-web. Another added bonus is that The Igon is not yet fully classified as a weapon. The backpack accelerator is still "legaly" a portable fusion unit. A loophole I hope all good rebels will put to use. All in all, it is a good weapon, but I wouldn't want to march cross country with the thing.
