They are very rough and ready, but an OK idea, I think. Let me know what you all think... Chris Lupton /===============================================================\ | "If you only knew the power of the wild die..." | | Chris Lupton, apprentice G.M. | | ceecdl@cee.hw.ac.uk | \===============================================================/ Because this has just been made off the top of my head (though it is based on Hedge Magic in the Hunter's Hunted for Vampire), It is probably very unbalanced. So, please tinker with it, and if you like it, add some spells and send them to me! Skills: Spellcasting Knowledge Range Perception Duration Knowledge Area Perception Low magic uses mental discipline and exact rituals to create seemingly miraculous effects. Its study requires dedication, a keen mind and LOTS of practice. To be able to cast spells, a character MUST have the spellcasting skill. A character cannot cast a spell by using just his knowledge. A character must also know the spell to be cast (obviously). A character can cast a spell without range, duration or area, though the spells effect will be instantaneous, restricted to one person and only have a 'touch' range. Spell Layout: Name: Casting Difficulty: Range Effects: Duration Effects: Area Effects: Spell Description: Casting a Spell. The wizard rolls his spellcasting skill. If he beats the spell's casting difficulty, the spell go's off. If he wants to increase it's range, duration or area of effect, he can roll his skills in these too (if the spell allows for them). A wizard can roll these as multiple actions in a round, incurring normal penalties. The skill rolls can be split ovewr consecutive rounds: this way, multiple penalties only happen if two or more skills are used in one round. The cost in CPs to learn a spell would probably depend on its power. Obviously, detect life (below) should cost less to learn than Thermonuclear Annihalation. If spells are grouped into 'colleges' or similar effects, the basic skills could have specializations for each group. Example: Name: Sense Life Casting Difficulty: Easy Range Effects: VE; 50m E ; 100m M ; 200m D ; 1/2km VD; 1km H ; 10km Duration Effects: VE: 1 minute E : 5 minutes M : 10 minutes D : 1/2 hour VD: 1 hour H : 2 hours Area Effects: One person affected per success level, starting at caster and affecting nearest people. Spell Description: This spell allows those affected by it to know the existence and rough location of any living creature in the spells range, and what type they are (plant, animal, sentient, etc). So, say Franz the Mighty Mage (with 5D in each skill) cast the spell. Round 1: Franz rolls his spellcasting of 5D and gets 17, a success. Round 2: Seeing as Franz knows he is alive, he decides that this spell needs some range. He rolls his range of 5D and gets 14, a moderate result. This means the spell will sense life within 200m of Franz (or anyone else affected by it) Round 3: Franz's companions are getting impatient, so he decides to roll Area and Duration in the same round. He rolls 4D for duration, getting 19 (good roll!). The spell will last for 1/2 and hour. Finally, he rolls 4D for the spells area and gets 6 (bad roll, Franz!). Only Franz and his nearest companion are affected by the spell. ------- End of Forwarded Message
