In his solace, Yarrick Dartanian-Nightrunner felt out of place. Protruding out from the Dennaskar surface were hundreds of monolithic rock formations, nearly as tall as mountains. They formed canyons which surrounded the dense green tropical forests of the planet. Yarrick stood gazing skyward, pulling back the hood that covered his head. He was engaged in tumultuous thought when a voice cut through almost tangible silence that reverberated across the planet. "Yarrick..." He spun around to look at the source of the voice and his heart nearly stopped. Before him stood a shimmering spectral image of the man in his dreams. The man he now knew to be his father. Tobias Dartanian-Nightrunner. "Yarrick..." he spoke again, his celestially echoing voice made Yarrick shudder. "Father?" He asked, hesitantly. "The Force guides you well Yarrick." He said proudly. He wore a hooded cloak, which concealed all but his face. He appeared in his late thirties, with a black goatee. He was slightly shorter than Yarrick, but with broader shoulders and a muscular build. The Force seemed to augment his physical stature a thousand fold. Yarrick wanted to walk closer, but it felt strange somehow. A sapient aura seemed to emanate from Tobias, and it served to comfort Yarrick. But the necromancy made him feel uncomfortable, if not a little bit frightened. Tobias seemed to sense this. "Do not be afraid. I have always been with you." He said, walking towards Yarrick. Yarrick took a sudden step back, uneasy about the situation. "Why are you appearing to me now?" Yarrick implored. "Because these are dark times." Tobias stepped closer to Yarrick, and they stared profoundly into each other's eyes. "The time has come for you to learn the Force to confront an enemy powerful in the Dark Side, with an intense ambition to become the Emperor's successor." Yarrick swallowed nervously. He started to speak but Tobias interrupted, raising his hand to allow himself to speak. "Go to the planet Daoloth. There you will find your destiny, and hopefully...your soul. The force will guide you." He image began to fade, and Yarrick extended an outstretched hand to him. Seconds later Yarrick wondered if it was ever really there. But Yarrick knew he was going to Daoloth. TOBIAS DARTANIAN-NIGHTRUNNER One of the original founders of the Legion of Light, Tobias Dartanian was more known for his preserving the Jedi religion than his achievements in battle. His military contributions to the Clone Wars were minute in comparison to his accomplishments in the area of history and metaphysics. He was well revered by other Jedi, many in awe of his knowledge and power in the Force. His early history is unknown, although it is documented that he kept a journal during his Jedi training which was later lost in the Jedi Purge. It is believed that he was born on the planet Chandrila, and studied under the Jedi Vo'ren Faalo when he turned age nineteen. He learned much of his Jedi precepts from Faalo, and most of his training consisted of lessons on the Force and the philosophy surrounding it. He became fascinated with the Force, and studied it relentlessly, but was forced to fight in the Clone Wars like many Jedi. Before the Clone Wars, Tobias became involved in a religious and political group of Jedi, and they formed the Legion of Light, its goal to uphold the covenant of the Force and support the war against the Dark Side. Dartanian became the third member of the Haedric Triumvirate, the ruling body of the coalition. He also held a seat on the Draven Tribunal, the division of the Legion of Light responsible for holding trial against those accused of wrongdoing. After the Clone Wars, he was given the responsibility of guarding the temple Thag'unar on the planet Daoloth, and he was bestowed the title Guardian Templar. Several years later, the Jedi that were in hiding at the shrine were discovered and murdered by a student of the Emperor, Varrin Thoth. Tobias was off planet with his soon-to-be wife Aria, and heard of the massacre. He and his wife went into hiding on the planet Celanon, aided by Tobias' Nalroni friend Naosar. It was then that Tobias took up the pseudonym surname Nightrunner to avoid being found by the Empire. Tobias and Aria lived happily on Celanon in the years following. Tobias devoted all of his time to studying his passions, history and anthropology. But he was again lured away to fight against the Jedi Purge in one of the final Crusades against the Empire, he left Aria for months, and was seduced by an unknown temptress of the Dark Side. He was converted to evil for a short time, and bore a child by her. But his undying love for his wife Aria returned him to the Light. They later had two sons together, Darius and Yarrick. Tobias built a lightsaber specifically for the two children, and had them locked away. Soon after, Tobias faced Thoth, just as he knew he would. He ordered Aria to take the children and run. She did so, first grabbing Darius' lightsaber and then picking up her children, running away in tears. Tobias stood no chance against Thoth, and the clash did not last long. Tobias was stricken down by the blade of Thoth's Lightsaber, but his life Force bonded with Yarrick's. And although Yarrick had no memory of his father's death, he often saw it in his nightmares, unknowingly caused by Tobias. He returned as a shimmering image several times to guide and train Yarrick, and thus breaking the Force continuum which restrained the galaxy. Due to this Tobias was forced to disappear permanently shortly after Yarrick defeated Kardac. It is believed that Tobias foresaw his own death and wrote a thanatopsis that was lost for years after his death, but that claim has yet to be proven. He is a very determined man, and always stands up for what is right. Despite having a very kind heart and clear mind, Tobias is also somewhat impatient with people, but he has pure intentions. He loves his son deeply, and is very proud of him, but constantly pushes him to become perfect. He is an extreme perfectionist, morally and spiritually, and during Yarrick's training, this appears to have rubbed off on his son as well. Although he does not approve of fighting, he will not hesitate to do what he feels is necessary, even if that means death. He was a loving father and husband before dying at the hands of Varrin Thoth, but was briefly turned to the Dark Side for a short time by a temptress of the Emperor. She was very attractive and seductive, as well as strong in the Force, and Tobias was fascinated with her. But Aria, an attractive woman in her own right, but neither Force-sensitive or nearly as provocative, brought Tobias back to the Light. This is a perfect example of how Tobias' interest in the mind and soul often cause him to lose sight of what in the galaxy really are valuable. The erroded pillars laid broken, covered by the moss and vegetation of the forest. They seemed as if they had lain there for thousands of years to the onlooking Yarrick, but to the gleaming, ghostly image of his father, they were an all too recent memory. Yarrick had passed the stone columns in his search for the hidden temple. They bore the engraving of a symbol, the crest of the Legion of Light, and other ornately carved runes. But the forest had consumed them, making the grey stone appear mostly green. It was apparent that they had not broken due to natural circumstances. Their ends were not asymetric and cragged, but severed cleanly, as if they had been cut with a blade. Yarrick glanced up at his father, squinting his eyes against the morning sun. He had just emerged from the dark temple, and his eyes had not completely adjusted. His father stared at the pillars momentarily, and then turned his gaze to his son. "We will now begin the second phase of your training." He stood motionless, his sight transfixed on Tobias, awaiting further instruction. "Your first task will be to move these, setting them upon one another." Tobias said, pointing towards the columns. "You will not be permitted to touch them." "What?" Yarrick shot out with astonishment. "That's impossible!" "It will always be impossible, if you cease to attempt it." Tobias retorted, folding his arms across his chest. Yarrick rolled his eyes and sighed. He stared at the massive blocks and concentrated on moving them. Maybe it was possible for Tobias, but Yarrick was fairly certain that it would never be a conceivable concept. "I can't do it." Yarrick announced, definitively, when they seldom more than shook. "You can do it. You simply do not apply yourself." "It's over father. I tried the best I could, and I failed." Yarrick began to walk away. "It does not end when you fail," Tobias called out to him. "it ends when you fail to try." Yarrick turned around and walked back toward Tobias. He stopped and before his father, staring down into his eyes. He returned his attention back toward the pillars and inhaled deeply, then breathed out, closing his eyes. He held his arms at his sides, clenching his fists and gritting his teeth. It felt as if every part of his body, mental and physical, was trying to move the stone cylinder. Then he felt a tremor in the Force. The stone column rose up from its embedding, and into the air. He concentated, carefully turning the stone telekenetically onto its base and setting it on the forest floor. He opened his eyes and then proceeded to do the same with seven other pillars. "You have done well, my son. The Force is with you." VARRIN THOTH Varrin Thoth, a member of the Sith, one of Emperor Palpatine's foremost students, and the arch-enemy of Tobias Dartanian-Nightrunner. He is almost the direct opposite of Tobias, never getting too philosophical or judgemental. He was far more attuned to combat and carrrying out the will of the Emperor. He participated in the Jedi Purge and himself killed over one hundred Jedi, many of which were members of the Legion of Light, to which Thoth was vehemently opposed. He spent no time ever trying to sway anyone to the Dark Side, simple killing them when they violated the Emperor's code. He was an apathetic murderer, and never had any convictions whatsoever upon the killing of the defenseless, or even children. Tobias Dartanian-Nightrunner became enraged when he heard about the deaths of some of the members of the Legion of Light and sought out Thoth. They confronted each other and fought, the result ending in a draw. They were in heated battle when the other members of the Triumverate burst into the cell in which the fight raged, and Thoth was forced to retreat. Thoth later killed the Jedi at the Thag'unar temple, and the final confrontation between Tobias and Thoth resulted in the death of Dartanian-Nightrunner. Upon returning to the Emperor after killing Dartanian-Nightrunner, the Emperor ordered Darth Vader to kill him, as he was growing too powerful. He towered over Tobias Dartanian-Nightrunner when the two fought, and was much younger when he killed the benevolent Jedi historiscist. He expressed very little emotion, other than anger. Palpatine used him for little more than to eliminate his oppostion, the Jedi Knights. Tobias Dartanian-Nightrunner and Varrin Thoth stared into each other's eyes, each trying to determine the other's next move with the Force. They stood with their lightsabers ignited, standing no more than a two meters apart, Thoth standing between him and his wife and children. Thoth struck first, and quickly, Tobias just barely able to raise his blade to defend it. The sheer power of the blow itself forced him back several steps, and Thoth stepped forward, swinging his lightsaber again, Tobias dodging out of the way as it struck the side of the sandstone wall. Dartanian-Nightrunner backed up defenseively as Thoth came down with another powerful swing, Tobias blocking it and their lightsabers crackling together, transitorily locked in a battle of strength, producing a low drone and a flashing of energy. "After I kill you," Thoth proclaimed with contempt, "I will kill your wife and children, so that you will know that your seed has been wiped from the galaxy for eternity." He motioned over to Aria, standing in the corner, holding her crying son, Yarrick in both arms. Darius clung to her leg, his countenance expressing both his deep fear and empathy for his father. He gathered all his strength, and forced Thoth back several steps, returning the the position they had held before, Tobias assuming a defenseive stance. His infant son's piercing cry resounded in the small home, Thoth's last words driving terror into his heart. "Aria, run!" He shouted, as Thoth brought down another sweeping blow, Tobias dodging to the side, then coming back with a swing that should have hit its mark on Thoth's shoulder. Instead, Thoth deflected it, striking Tobias blade. Aria Dartanian-Nightrunner had already taken her children and run out of the house, carrying the moaning Yarrick in her left arm and holding Darius' hand in the other. Tears had already begun to drip down Darius' face, fearful of his father's fate. Sensing that his wife and sons were safe, he fought with revitalization. He battled Thoth back several paces, rapidly swinging his lightsaber to be blocked effortlessly each time. With the final strike, Thoth locked lightsabers with Tobias, twisting his own and flinging Tobias' blade across the room and he watched it as it skidded across the floor. She stopped in front of the family dewback, and she placed Yarrick into the saddle pouch of the reptilian riding beast. Then she picked up her other son and lifted him up into the leather saddle. When she herself climbed up, she pulled the reigns of the dewback and rode off to find refuge in Celanon City. The wind blowing her long, blonde hair, she leaned down and kissed the top of Darius head gently as tears trickled down her face. Removing Darius' lightsaber from her robe, she placed it in a black drawstring pouch. "And now, Dartanian, you die." Thoth quickly swung his lightsaber at arms length, dismembering Tobias' head. Only there was no blood, nor body. All that remained of Tobias were his white robes. However, Thoth never turned back. He darted out of the small domicile and stood in the archway as he watched a dewback scamper away, heading north. YARRICK DARTANIAN-NIGHTRUNNER Yarrick Dartanian-Nightrunner was born on the agricultural planet Celanon, the son of Tobias and Aria Dartanian-Nightrunner and the younger brother of Darius Dartanian-Nightrunner. His father, Tobias Dartanian, a Jedi, was forced to take up the pseudonym surname Nightrunner to avoid being hunted down in the purge. They lived in the isolated continent of Desetur, the only humans on the continent, as Tobias had made lifelong friends with a Nalroni named Noasar. It did not save Tobias, however, because only a year after Yarrick was born, the Dark Jedi located him. Aria picked up her two children and ran, under the command of Tobias, who engaged in a fierce Lightsaber duel with Varrin Thoth. The battle did not last long, as Tobias was overcome by the intense power of the Dark Side in Thoth. Aria and her children just managed to escape, and without anywhere else to go, were forced to stay in the crowded trader port of Celanon City. From the time of his death, Tobias was incubusly with Yarrick, in the form of surreal nightmares. This was an unconscious act on the part of both individuals, as Tobias' life force bonded with Yarrick's. Thoth returned to his master, the Emperor, he was punished by death for his failure. It was five years before the Imperial troopers found Yarrick and his mother and brother in Celanon City. His brother, only twelve years old, gave his own lightsaber to Yarrick and told him to run, as he unsuccessfully tried to defend himself and his mother with the Force. Darius was killed with no complication, as was his mother. Yarrick managed to escape and live for weeks on the streets of Celanon City. He was finally discovered by a young near-human couple who had heard of the bounty posted for the dead body of the child. They claimed that they were his godparents, and they took him in. They intended to sell him to the Empire, but grew attached to him and ended up trying to hide him. They moved from planet to planet as Yarrick grew older, finally making a permanent stay on the planet Agost. There, Yarrick, then eighteen, befriended and later fell in love with a radiant girl named Alora Kierran. Her father, a gambler, was in severe debt to a crime lord and spent his and his daughter's lives being chased by bounty hunters. They were forced to leave before Yarrick turned twenty. She and her father fled to Fether, and her father later died of a mysterious epidemic plague that infected nearly the entire planet. It only grew worse for Yarrick when the Empire completely subjugated the entire planet, making slaves of all the farmers for rations for its soldiers, and Yarrick was again required to leave. This time, on his own. Yarrick decided that he would join the Rebel Alliance, and fight for the freedom that he had been denied his entire life. He left the planet with a group of rogue, signing with them as an indentured mercenary for several months, participating in many heated battles, all of them deadly. As a mercenary, he acquired a number of informants and contacts, as well as made a few friends. He later fulfilled his goals and joined the Alliance on Vondarc, and became an A-Wing Starfighter pilot. Dartanian-Nightrunner was involved in several unsuccessful reconnaissance missions, and an assault on a Victory Star Destroyer. In what would be his last active mission as a member of the Rebel Alliance, he was to infiltrate the Imperial defenses on the planet Condorra, where a prisoner of pivotal importance to the Alliance was being held in a garrison base. The mission was covert in the highest degree, and Yarrick was the only operative officially assigned to the mission. He rendezvoused with a group of underground Rebel freedom fighters, and they tried to break into the base. Only one other than Yarrick survived the attempt. The prisoner was executed, and the Imperials obtained what Yarrick believed to be vital information. Rather than the Imperials get their hand on the data, Yarrick and the operative rigged an explosive device which killed nearly thirty Imperial officers. In the escape from the base, the Operative died, and Yarrick only managed to retreat in a battered Y-Wing in a military scrapyard. He penetrated the Imperial blockade in space, and once aboard the Frigate Valor, was reassigned to a different post. A post on that of the planet Dennaskar, virtually uninhabited. The vital data turned out to be nothing more than an the memorandum of an Imperial organizational conference. He was declared dead by the Rebel Alliance, and the mission was eliminated from all records, as in the event that word got out, it would mean sympathy for the Empire in the Senate. Yarrick spent a year in seclusion on Dennaskar, when he was contacted by the mercenaries which had hired him years ago. They were taking part in the gang war between Qual'om Soach's Organization and the Nalmar Syndicate, and insisted that Dartanian-Nightrunner join them, as he did not fully uphold his end of the bargain. Yarrick felt compelled to do so, and battled with them on the planet Genesia, where most of them were killed. After losing the battle, and just managing to escape, Yarrick returned to Dennaskar, where he spent another year, when he was met by the shimmering image of his father, instructing him to go to the planet Daoloth. Obediently, Yarrick did so, and there after hours of searching he found and entered an ancient temple and his father appeared again. The brilliant, ghostly image of his father taught him how to use the Force, and the responsibility that went along with becoming a Jedi. Yarrick learned nearly all of his moral Jedi lessons through Tobias' teachings of history, making examples of past occurrences. During his physical training, Tobias would take form as a voice in Yarrick's head, constantly driving him on. The two bonded over the course of a year in Yarrick's training, but it was not without conflict. The frustrated Yarrick would protest bitterly to Tobias, Tobias calmly insisting that Yarrick was not trying hard enough, Yarrick becoming angry and defensive. It was during this period of anger that Yarrick became very close to being drawn to the Dark Side, when he ventured into a chamber that was consumed by evil, as it was the room in which seven Jedi were struck down by one man. The man that would later kill Tobias, Varrin Thoth. But in the end, father and son were at peace. Until Tobias unleashed a startling revelation. He had been unfaithful to Yarrick's mother, long before Yarrick was born. That Tobias had succumbed to the Dark Side, and he had a son through a Dark tempress servant of the Emperor, Yarrick's half-brother named Kardac. It was then revealed that that was why Tobias had returned, to train Yarrick to combat the evil Kardac. Yarrick, remembering the death of his brother, Darius, insisted on returning his half-brother to the Light. Tobias said Yarrick was being irrational, that Kardac was too consumed by evil to be turned. Yarrick left Daoloth, journeying to the hidden planet Toalagar, where Kardac had formed a cult, the Dark Advocate Sect. On the scarcely populated Toalagar, he found an enormous Imperial Citadel, and fought a number of the Dark Advocates and an apprentice of Kardac, before finally confronting Kardac himself. The two fought for what seemed like an eternity, but Kardac was by far the superior warrior. Kardac eventually emerged victorious and nearly killed Yarrick before being killed himself by his traitorous servant Sarcaandia. Yarrick buried Kardac in a valley not far from the fortress. After speaking with Sarcaandia, and erasing much of the dark side from her soul, Yarrick was visited by Tobias, for the last time. Tobias explained that he had broken the continuum of the Force, in its coexistence with time, and his own moral judgement about altering events. Tobias told him that he would not always be able to rely on him for guidance, and Yarrick knew immediately what he meant. He understood, and father and son separated, as Tobias faded away into eternity. He never felt so alone in his life. (The Yarrick Dartanian-Nightrunner Chronicles) Yarrick, who would no longer submissively wait on Dennaskar, ventured into what he believed to be wild space in his starfighter, locating the supposedly lost Nyrogatha system. Guided by the Force, he found Alora Kierran and her Cracian Thumper Whirlwind, scouting the rain forest planet for what was now the New Republic. She had located an Imperial Research Facility, but was unable to communicate with the Republic due to a satellite the Empire had set up to send encrypted data transmissions. The satellite was designed to keep the New Republic from intercepting the transmissions, but also prevented them from sending them, within the radius of the link created between the research facility and the satellite. Alora and her Cracian Thumper had been trapped on the planet for three weeks, but the arrival of Yarrick promised them rescue. However, Yarrick found himself unable to leave, and together he and Alora managed to break into the Research Facility and fought their way through, discovering encrypted Imperial data files. They couldn't break the code that secured the files, and they stole it from the central computer. Faced with adversity, they rekindled their romance, and when chased back to his A-Wing, Alora insisted Yarrick to deliver the data to the Republic, and come back for her. With the Imperials closing in, he was forced to make the journey alone. Alora managed to escape into the dense rain forest and hide, until Yarrick could return. Yarrick transmitted the readouts to the nearest New Republic warship, a Calamari MC80 Cruiser in the adjacent sector before returning to Alora and traveling to the planet Lamuir IV where they began living together. (Yarrick Dartanian-Nightrunner and the Clandestine Fear). They had spent little time together before Yarrick began having horrible macabre nightmares, focused on the Dark Side. Dartanian-Nightrunner, determined to discover the source, left Alora on a large Star Explorer vessel and began researching the images he found in his nightmares, uncovering information on a ancient, jagged piece of stone he had seen in his visions. He traveled to the planet Aaris III, where he uncovered strange stone ruins that beared the same inscriptions that he had seen in his dreams. The history of the relic obscure, Yarrick soon discovered that it was left behind by an extinct race which had inhabited the planet Jandoon. Further research indicated that Sarcaandia was one of the few remaining descendants of the natives of Jandoon. Realizing that she may hold the key to uncovering the secret of the lost artifact, he returned to Sarcaandia on Toalagar, and they journeyed to Jandoon where they found that a black-skinned human Dark Jedi had already found the stone relic. The Dark Jedi, upon seeing Yarrick, uttered something about a bond prophesy and then attacked him. Yarrick defeated him and recovered the artifact, but he threatened to kill Sarcaandia if Dartanian-Nightrunner didn't surrender the stone. Yarrick threw the artifact back towards the ruins, and the Dark Jedi slashed Sarcaandia's midsection with his lightsaber and ran back toward the artifact. Yarrick rushed to Sarcaandia's side, as the Dark Jedi picked up the artifact and escaped in a freighter. Yarrick, concerned only with keeping Sarcaandia alive, took her back aboard the ship and tried to stop the bleeding with his torn cloak. He then used the Force to ease her pain and aid in the healing process. Sarcaandia, unconscious, began screaming and moaning, and Yarrick rushed to her side. When he touched her, she awoke, and begged him to take her away from the planet. They jumped into lightspeed, returning to Aaris III. By the time they arrived nearly four days later, she had fully healed. Sarcaandia, while unable to read the primitive language, said she had seen the exact same symbols before, in her dreams. Yarrick ventured deeper into the ruins, and into an underground chamber that was inhabited by the Dark Side, insisting that Sarcaandia stay back. While Yarrick searched the chamber, Sarcaandia found a data card underneath a pile of rubble, which revealed the personal journal of an Imperial Scientist, who was conducting archaeological excavations there. It spoke of the Wise Men of Korro on Gelegar, who could allegedly translate the inscription. Yarrick and Sarcaandia themselves went to the swamp world of Gelegar, and to the Shrine of Koroo where they spoke with one of the Wise Men. He spoke to Yarrick and Sarcaandia telepathcially, telling them that Sarcaandia had the ability to read the inscriptions, it had only been taken from her when Kardac erased her memory. The Wise Man spoke more of the prophesy, and Dartanian-Nightrunner and Sarcaandia returned to Aaris III to try and translate the inscription and restore Sarcaandia's memory. Together, holding hands, they were able to revive her memory completely and translate the writing. They learned of a tomb of Dark Jedi who fought in a Crusade hundreds of years ago. It was said that the tomb held unspeakable power, including the ability to harness the pure energy of the Dark Side. Further study uncovered that the tomb was located on the planet Deneba, and that the message actually predated the Crusade, by almost one thousand years. It also spoke more of the bond that would be the only means of stopping its destructive power, once unleashed. They finally arrived at Deneba, and discovered that the Dark Jedi had already arrived, and had been excavating the tomb with a group of mercenaries atop a cliff for a long period of time. Yarrick and Sarcaandia fought several of the mercenaries, but the Dark Jedi entered the tomb before them. They scaled the cliffside, entering the tomb just as he released the power. Yarrick fought images from his past before the Dark Jedi was killed by Sarcaandia and the stone was destroyed, by either Yarrick or Darius Dartanian-Nightrunner. The temple collapsed, just after Sarcaandia helped the badly hurt Yarrick to his feet and they escaped. (Yarrick Dartanian-Nightrunner and the Graveyard of the Jedi). Yarrick, ending his relationship with Alora Kierran, both regarding it as nothing more than one formed out of conveinence, as both were in need of someone whom they could cling to for support. He would get discouraged when he would fail to do something, and would many times not even try if he felt that it could not be done. In his youth he was very timid and isolated himself, and made few friends. His first love and his first friend were in fact one in the same, Alora Kierran, although he desperately wanted to be liked. He was very passive, and was very uncomfortable in social situations. After learning the Force on Daoloth, Yarrick was no longer the submissive youth he had once been. He stood up for his rights, putting other lives ahead of his own. He became slightly philosophical, and sensitive to others. Driven by his father, he became somewhat perfectionist, never being satisfied with his own achievements. Even though he will prefer any alternative over killing, he is much more of a warrior than his father ever was, being less idealistic in his beliefs. Though suffering many tragedies in his life, he still remains lighthearted, whereas before, it drove him into social seclusion. All the tragedies that he has experienced allow him to deal with death more easily. He is easily provoked to anger by violence, and he has to carefully maintain his mental composure so that he does not give in to the Dark Side. He is fairly tall, with a youthfully lean build and dark hair and eyes. He usually wears a dark grey tunic and black pants and boots. His left arm is cybernetic, the result of his starfighter being shot down, but is concealed between molded syntheflesh. He also bears a small scar, along the right side of his forehead, where he was cut by the Dark Advocate Followers. His Lightsaber always remain at his side, a reminder of his father and brother. On the other side of his belt hangs Kardac's crude Lightsaber. The intense purple blade and phosphorescing white blade clashed amidst the darkness of the helix-shaped tower stairwell illuminated only by an occasional torch aligning the wall. Kardac swung around a sweeping slash and Yarrick had no choice but to try and parry his blows, retreat back several steps, and protect himself again as Kardac came back with a strong, compact swing. Their lightsabers crackled on contact, but only briefly, as Kardac again pulled his back to thrust it at Yarrick. "The Light Side is more of a hinderance than it is an asset." Kardac said condesendingly as Yarrick stood in defensive position, their lightsabers hissing in unison. Kardac brought his down upon Yarrick aggressively, his lightsaber making a slight whistling sound in addition to the hum as he swung it due to its poor construction. Yarrick just managed to block it and returned with an impotent counterstrike, and Kardac parried it with ease, the impact creating a brilliant flash of energy. Kardac swung his lightsaber upwards, and Yarrick just managed to block it as he noticed one of the torches tear itself from the clay molding that attached it to the wall, and come twirling toward him. He ducked under it just in time to defend himself from Kardac's next strike. Several seconds later, two more of the torches came swirling toward him, and he struggled to avoid being hit in the fiery maelstrom. One of the torches struck his lower torso and singed him, and he doubled over in pain. It was no doubt the work of Kardac, using the Force in an effort to subdue him. He took another step back, and Kardac struck his lightsaber to Yarrick's with a massive blow. Yarrick stumbled backward, letting go of his lightsaber with one hand to brace himself from his fall. Kardac took the opportunity to club his lightsaber again, this time in his weakened stance, it jarred lose from his grip, extinguishing itself when released, and plummeted into the shadowy abyss below. Kardac raised his lightsaber over his head for the final, incapacitating blow, and Yarrick brought up his hand in front of his face and winced, closing his eyes. "How can you worship the man that killed your mother?" He shouted quickly, as he was sure death would come immediately. But to his surprise, Kardac paused for one second, and that was all Yarrick needed. He rolled off the stairs, as Kardac brought the lightsaber down into the stone steps, and he grabbed onto the edge with his left hand as his feet dangled down into the seemingly bottomless shaft that they had ascended in battle. He swiftly pulled a grappling hook from his belt, and tossed it downward and it latched itself onto a metal outcropping. Kardac swung the lightsaber down to strike Yarrick's hand, just as he let go and fell. The molecord unattached from his belt when he reached the end of the line, and he grabbed it during his rapid decent. He held on tight as his arms jerked upward from the fall, but his momentum carried him forward, and he swung towards a small alcove recessed in the wall. He let go, and leapt for the ledge, just barely grabbing it with his fingertips as he slammed into the wall. He kicked his feet, scraping them against the cellcrete, but his boots could find no traction against the smooth surface. He tried to pull himself up with all his might when he heard the faint click of an ancient slugthrower. He just managed to scurry up into the alcove as the shell ricocheted off the position he had held seconds before. He darted to the left as Kardac uncoiled another round that hit its mark just to his right. He bent over as he entered a dark corridor with a low ceiling, the sound of pouring rain and the rumbling of thunder just beyond the walls, and he knew it would not be long before Kardac crossed the pit in the tower behind him. KARDAC DARTANIAN-NIGHTRUNNER Kardac Dartanian-Nightrunner is the illegitimate son of Jedi Knight Tobias Dartanian-Nightrunner and an unknown temptress of the Dark Side. Tobias Dartanian was seduced by her when he was drawn to the Dark Side, and the product of that affair, Kardac, was taken from her by the Emperor and then Palpatine himself killed her. The Emperor had him taken to the jungle planet Toalagar, where he lived in a gargantuan Imperial citadel guarded by Imperial advisors. Toalagar, which was located near the Yimdago System governed by the Emperor's lead advisor and warlord Grand Moff Survis was the ideal location for the hiding of Kardac. Toalagars' nearby uninhabited system Cidrom was plentiful in industrial resources and Survis was growing too powerful and posed a minute, yet visible threat to the Emperor. Palpatine foresaw Kardac's ambition and lust for power and knew he would kill Survis for complete control of the Yimdago System. The prophesy finally fulfilled itself. Kardac began studying Palpatine's Book of Anger and the force and when he turned sixteen, murdered Survis and took complete control of all three systems. For Kardac believed independently that a weakness in the Emperor's system was that all of his followers, with the exception of Darth Vader and a handful of others, were completely ignorant of Palpatine's power in the Force. Almost none of his followers knew of his power, although he used it to manipulate them. Kardac believed that everyone under him should be aware of his power, and therefore fear him more. This led to the creation of the Dark Advocate Sect. After he took control of the Yimdago and Cidrom systems, Kardac began recruiting members into his Dark Advocate Sect. He taught them in the teachings of Palpatine, and trained them each to be his personal soldiers, to serve him in any way possible, including death. Kardac discovered a young girl in his search for Dark Advocates, and was compelled by her sensitivity to the Force. She became Sarcaandia, dark servant of Kardac. Although Kardac was strong in the Force, the Emperor saw no need for him after he would Luke Skywalker. Palpatine decided that it would be more advantageous not to train Kardac, so that he would be easier to eliminate as a threat to his rule once he had converted Skywalker. Kardac was forced to learn Palpatine's teachings from afar, and gained an immense skill in the Force. He even constructed his own Lightsaber, from a model given to him, with a deep purple blade and a handle made out of crude, tarnished black metal. But without a teacher Kardac Dartanian-Nightrunner's skill was far from accomplished, his indoctrination far from complete. But another threat arose in Kardac's grasp for power. Yarrick Dartanian-Nightrunner. After the Battle of Endor, Kardac saw his opportunity. He saw himself as the rightful heir to the seat of Emperor, as Vader had perished along with Palpatine. He prepared his religious sect for a surgence into power, just as Yarrick Dartanian-Nightrunner arrived at his fortress. Kardac saw Yarrick as nothing more than a thorn in his side, but an interesting one nonetheless. For Yarrick represented a piece of Kardac. A side which Kardac did not wish to confront, a side which he would rather not accept. He was motivated to torture Yarrick, and then slowly kill him, that way Yarrick could feel weak and powerless. But as they fought, even though Kardac dominated Yarrick, he was impressed nonetheless with Yarrick's ability to defend himself. Since Sarcaandia had failed him in her fight against Yarrick, he decided that Yarrick would be a much greater ally than would Sarcaandia. He forced Yarrick into a weakened position, and tried to sway him to the Dark Side. Yarrick could barely resist Kardac's power, tried to run away. But he was trapped and feared that Kardac would indeed turn him to evil. Kardac imposed his darkness upon Yarrick through the Force, and Yarrick fought it back at Kardac, which caused Kardac to become more powerful, as well as much more angry. He lashed out at Yarrick, abandoning the idea of conforming Yarrick, and Yarrick fell over the edge of the mountain Citadel. Yarrick just managed to grab onto a gargoyle when Kardac returned to his original idea of torturing Yarrick to make him feel weak. He slowly began to tear Yarrick's heart into two, causing intense pain for Yarrick. But Sarcaandia came from behind him, striking him down with Yarrick's own lightsaber that he had lost in the battle. Kardac then died, and Yarrick buried him in the wilderness of Toalagar. Rather than destroy Kardac's lightsaber, Yarrick kept it, as it represented the dark side of Yarrick as much as Yarrick represented the good in Kardac. He is of average height with a thin but athletic build. He bears a strong physical resemblance to Tobias Dartanian in his younger years, but his mind is corrupt and evil. He has short dark hair, and evil cold eyes. He is obsessed with power, and enjoys showing his dominance over his enemies before killing them. He is exceptionally strong in the Force, and managed to train himself just by studying Palpatine's sinister doctrine. He is extremely ambitious, and will stop at nothing to acquire what he believes to be rightfully his. Including complete control of the Empire. He always wears tenebrous black Jedi garb, with tall black boots which conceal a knife. The large upper platform of the gargantuan mountain citadel was enshrouded in a dense, ethereal mist, thickened by the pounding rain. Tall, thin, needle-like structures surrounded Yarrick, as he tried to conceal himself among the fog, darkness and stone. Through the Force he felt Kardac's presence, drawing closer, and he ran in the opposite direction, his boots splashing in the rainwater puddles. He stopped, and with bated breath, leaned back against one of the narrow spikes. He had to keep moving, or Kardac would locate his life force. He straightened up, and turned to run to his right, but he stopped at once when he saw Kardac, lightsaber ignited and at the ready, with his back to him. Yarrick slowly backed away, just as a loud thunderclap shook the sky. It felt as if the storm were right upon them. Yarrick's eyes scanned the thicket of stone protrusions, and when he turned back to where Kardac had been, he was no longer there. He became terrified. "I won't hide from you any longer!" He yelled, trying to make his voice heard while at the same time trying to conceal his fear. He knew his fear would only make Kardac more powerful. Suddenly, he felt Kardac behind him, and turned quickly as Kardac lunged toward Yarrick, lashing at him repeatedly with his lightsaber, Yarrick just managing to dodge backward from the strikes. He dashed into the concealment of the foreboding fog, retreating to temporary safety. Kardac was unable to locate him momentarily, the haze engulfing him, clouding his vision. Yarrick continued to run until he reached a waist high, ornately decorated parapet that surrounded the perimeter of the platform. He looked over the edge, through less dense vapor, and saw the jungle floor of the planet hundreds of meters below. The height of the mountain itself accounted for much of the distance. He swung around in the direction he had come. He was trapped on all sides. Kardac, himself unable to find Yarrick visually, stretched out with the Force and immediately found him. Kardac clenched his right fist as he sent a surge of evil into Yarrick's mind. Yarrick trembled and screamed as he felt the dark power overwhelming his being. Kardac stepped from the mist, and into the sight of Yarrick. Yarrick grabbed his own head, moaning, trying to suppress the negative thoughts and emotions. He would be converted to the Dark Side. He could not repress the dark energy. Just before he thought he would be consumed by darkness, the Force rose in him, and he repelled it back at Kardac. Yarrick tried to regain his mental energy as Kardac became furious, overflowing with sinister power. He suddenly charged at Yarrick, swiftly slashing into his shoulder before Yarrick had time to react. Yarrick toppled over the edge of the parapet, and plummeted downward. During his fall, he slammed into the side of the fortress, briefly slowing him. He grabbed onto the jaw of a Wrix gargoyle with his cybernetic hand and held on for his life. The syntheflesh that had covered his mechanical arm was almost completely worn away, only small fragments of skin were still left attached. To Yarrick, it felt as painful as if someone had sliced into his real hand with a vibroblade. His body ached with the pain he received from hitting the fortress wall, and he knew he must have broken bones. He looked skyward, the rain pouring into his eyes, burning them. Probably due to slight traces of ammonia in the atmosphere. He glimpsed Kardac leaning over the edge, watching him dangle from the mouth of the stone beast. Yarrick's tunic was torn, exposing his bare, bloody chest. His shoulder hurt much worse, however, the bloody, seared flesh clinging to his tattered tunic. Kardac extended his hand outward, and slowly contorted his fingers. Yarrick growled loudly in pain as he felt his heart being slowly torn into two pieces. He grabbed his chest with his free hand, which caused additional pain when he moved his shoulder. His vision began to darken, as he felt himself slowly slipping into unconsciousness... Just as a bright white light struck Kardac from behind, and he fell out of Yarrick's sight. The unaffected servos in his cybernetic arm hummed as he pulled him up onto the ledge, and he nearly slipped off the wet surface. He reached out through the Force, and saw Sarcaandia hacking into Kardac's dead body, filled with anger. He closed his eyes, trying to calm her with the Force. The slashing grew slower and slower, finally stopping. Sarcaandia dropped the lightsaber, falling to her knees, and buried her face in her hands as she cried. SARCAANDIA Previously known only as Sarcaandia, she was recruited by Kardac into his Dark Advocate Sect when the evil Dartanian-Nightrunner discovered something exceptional about her. Not her extraordinary beauty, or her naive curiosity, but unlike the rest of the Sect members she was sensitive to the Force. He made her the only female Dark Advocate, and began converting her by deeply scarring her face with a ceremonial knife, the same as with all of his followers. He then erased her previous memory, and clouded her mind with the Dark Side so that she no longer retained her ability to make moral judgement independently. He taught her in the teachings of the Dark Side, and in the methods of combat as he intended for her to be his own evil neophyte. She was adorned in metal armor with a black cloth mask that covered her entire head, and had no orifices, but allowed her to see from within. She was armed with the Force Axe like that of the Imperial Sentinels. But when Yarrick Dartanian-Nightrunner came to the Toalagar fortress, she was forced to prove herself to Kardac in combat with Yarrick. Yarrick conquered her easily, and this enraged Kardac. He hit Sarcaandia with the back of his fist, and she fell to the ground, her mask flying off, and her face bruised. It was then revealed to Yarrick that she was a woman, which had been previously unbeknownst to him. Yarrick ran to her side, and compassion Yarrick felt for her intensified Kardac's anger. Yarrick became angry at Kardac's aggression toward Sarcaandia, and the two ignited Lightsabers and clashed. Sarcaandia then slipped into the darkness and bled in silence, while the two battled fiercely. When Yarrick lost his Lightsaber in the fight, she retrieved it and killed Kardac herself with it. On the brink of the Dark Side when she killed Kardac, she was very unstable, and began to continuously tear into Kardac's body after he was dead. However, Yarrick comforted her and without the evil presence of Kardac, brought her back to the Light. In Yarrick's last days on Toalagar, the two became intimate and fell in love, but in spite of this, Sarcaandia wanted to stay behind and return the Dark Advocate Followers to rectitude. But she was again visited by Dartanian-Nightrunner when he discovered that she was possibly the only surviving descendant of the natives of Jandoon, and held the key to deciphering his mysterious dreams. She had been encountering the dreams as well, but was unable to make anything of them. The two traveled to what Yarrick believed to be her homeworld, and they battled a Dark Jedi. When her memory was restored, it was revealed that her true name was Serra Harbright, and had been taken from Dravian Space Station at only age thirteen to be instructed by Kardac. After uncovering the lost Jedi tomb, and defeating the Dark Jedi, she and Yarrick went back to the planet Daoloth, where Yarrick began training her in the Force. She has flawless beauty, with long brown hair that cascades down her shoulders and back. After years of brainwashing by Kardac, she still finds it very hard to defy anyone superior to her. She was denied many of the emotions other people experience, such as love and empathy, and after being released from her bondage by Yarrick Dartanian-Nightrunner, tends to be overly passionate. Yarrick Dartanian-Nightrunner stood over the grave of his half-brother, Kardac, the cold wind softly whipping his hair, blowing through his aching bones. He stared down at the black, corroded lightsaber he held in his bandaged hand and for a moment he considered destroying the lightsaber, eliminating all traces of Kardac. But he decided that the lightsaber represented the Dark Side in him, no matter how much he wanted to deny it. He latched it onto his belt, and again stared mournfully at the grave. The grave was nothing more than a cleared out patch of jungle, with an inscription of the Legion of Light's seal on a nearby tree, marking the grave. Yarrick knew that it would soon be overgrown and lost to the interminable extremes of the jungle. It was the darkness, just before the dawn. He and Kardac had battled all night, and Yarrick was tired and in severe pain. Through the Force, he felt the presence of Sarcaandia and looked up from the grave and into her eyes. She was still wearing the heavy dark leather battle armor she wore when they first encountered each other. They stared at each other in silence for a moment, each unsure of what to say to the other. Quietly, Sarcaandia walked up to Yarrick and drew her arms around him and he embraced her. Yarrick knew that she was not completely mentally stable yet, but he felt himself drawn to her. They held each other for several minutes, Sarcaandia resting her head against Yarrick's chest. "I can't stay here." He said, holding her tightly. She backed out of the embrace slightly, so that she could look into his face. "And I cannot leave." She whispered to him. "At least...not yet." She glanced to her right at the fortress. "I need to stay so that I can bring them back to the Light." Yarrick nodded, but he was unsure how safe it was for Sarcaandia, who was unstable herself, to try and bring back the evil disciples of Kardac. He could sense her honesty through the Force, but he had no reason to doubt her. "Do you understand? I need you to stay, to help me." She pleaded. "I can't. I am one of only a handful of Jedi Knights left in the galaxy. I am needed elsewhere." He explained. It was true, of course, but Yarrick didn't tell her the actual reason he didn't want to stay. The real reason was the planet itself, and the Dark Side that still inhabited it. The evil energy that had been there had not died with Kardac. It was very much still there. That was also why Yarrick was reluctant to leave her. She backed away, and turned to look away from Yarrick. He stepped toward her, and then slowly caressed her face with the fingertips of his bandaged hand. She stood motionless, gazing into his eyes. He made his way to the scar that bore down from the bottom of her lip to her neck, and closed his eyes as he touched it. It was still tainted with the Dark Side. He traced it with his forefinger, slowly draining the darkness from it. When he opened his eyes, her visage indicated that a great burden had been lifted from her. "It feels as though you've released me from the chains that have bound me forever." She said compassionately. "You've always had the key." Yarrick told her. They stared at each other for several more seconds, and then he kissed her. She responded, and they kissed each other passionately. When they released each other moments later, Yarrick stared into her beautiful eyes. "I will return to you, Sarcaandia." Sarcaandia backed away and then turned and walked towards the mountain. Yarrick spun around and methodically made his way back toward his A-Wing, but stopped in mid-stride when he heard Sarcaandia's voice. "May the Force be with you in your quest, Dartanian-Nightrunner." She called out to his back. Yarrick closed his eyes for an instant, felt the Force in and around him, and then silently continued walking. Yarrick Dartanian-Nightrunner and the Graveyard of the Jedi "Serra, wait!" Yarrick yelled, but she dropped down into the dark aperture. He ran to the edge and recklessly leapt in. He hit the stone floor abruptly and painfully, unable to determine to brace himself from the fall. He looked up, and saw that he was in a vast circular chamber. Along the walls were the inlaid burial niches which housed seemingly innumerable corpses. In the center of the room, there was an enormous cylindrical shaft, from which manacles hung a human skeleton. Above it was an indecipherable stele. Two of the human mercenaries carried glow lamps which brightened the tomb. The Dark Jedi stood at the base of the column and held the jagged stone aloft. Yarrick took a breif glimpse of Serra, who was staring mesmorized at the stone. He stepped forward slowly to try and grab the artifact away from the the Dark Jedi, but when he began to do so, the dark one began to place the stone within the rib cage of the skeleton. Yarrick accelerated into a frenzied dash just as the stone locked in place. The Dark Jedi raised his hands into the air and bolts of energy rained down onto the palms of his hands. Instantly, Yarrick and the two humans were engulfed in fireballs, falling to the ground where they stood. Harbright, shocked, ran over to him, calling out his name. The flames seemed to emit from him, not consume him, but nonetheless cause intense pain. Unable to help him, she looked up at the amazed Dark Jedi, and their eyes met. In her only hope to save Yarrick, she unsheathed the wrist blades from her battle armor and charged toward him... Yarrick stood in the middle of a ring of fire, its walls ascending five meters. He felt an evil presence coming towards him, and he stepped back, removing his lightsaber from his belt. Kardac Dartanian-Nightrunner stepped from the flames, into the circle, brandeshing his lightsaber. Yarrick raised his own into defense position and easily defended Kardac's initial strike. His half-brother's face was expressionless and cold, as if he bore no emotion. Yarrick tried to read his thoughts, but he sensed nothing more than the body, existing alone, without the mind. Kardac followed with a barrage of strikes, all defended by Yarrick. The swings seemed to become more difficult to parry as they continued, Kardac bringing his lightsaber over his head in an exaggerated arc and slicing into Yarrick's mechanical arm. He moaned with the pain and instictively grabbed it, as Kardac swung again, across the width of his body, this time cutting into Yarrick's chest. He doubled over, raising his lightsaber over his head to block the impending decapitating blow that Kardac attempted to land. Yarrick stood up and slashed his white blade ineptly toward Kardac's torso. His evil half-brother fended it off, and pushed forward, throwing Yarrick onto his back. Kardac pulled his lightsaber back, and prepared to strike when Yarrick thrust his own into Kardac's chest. Seconds later, he disappeared in a flash of fire. Before Yarrick could get to his feet, a distant memory stepped before him. Varrin Thoth loomed over him, bringing his lightsaber down upon him. Yarrick just managed to evade the Dark Jedi's blade, rolling to the side. There was little doubt in Yarrick's mind that he was going to die at the hands of Thoth. He had barely been able to defeat Kardac. Unless it was all a hallucination... He reached his hand into the flames and they scorched him, blistering his hand, causing his flesh to turn pink with the burns. Thoth walked over next to him, bearing the same expressionless mask-like facade. Heedlessly, he hurled his lightsaber at Thoth, and his murderer of his father raised his own blade in defense, but he was not prepared, and it cut right through him. Unlike Kardac, he simply faded away, and the walls of flame began to burn out, and Yarrick was suddenly back in the tomb... Serra Harbright stood over the dead body of the Dark Jedi, her wrist blades and battle armor covered in blood. Yarrick got up to his knees and sensed Serra's fear. Fear that she would return to the Dark Side and once again become Sarcaandia. But the darkness was not there. Then Yarrick turned his attention to the hanging skeleton and the rock. Next to the column stood Yarrick's brother, Darius. In his hand he held his own lightsaber, which he had given to Yarrick when he and his mother were killed. Yarrick looked down at the ground around him, where the lightsaber should have been then back to Darius. He ignited the lightsaber and swung it against the skeleton and cut it in half, destroying the stone. There was a blinging flash of light, and Yarrick was forced to shield his eyes. When he reopened them, Darius was gone, and the ground was shaking. Suddenly, the ground split open, and sloped downward. Yarrick toppled backward, and slid down the side, grabbing onto the edge of the ground. The walls came tumbling down, and the roof cracked open. Serra fell off her feet, and tried to get up again to run to Yarrick. He felt his grip slipping, the dirt around his fingers giving way, when lightsaber skidded past his head and onto the other side of the crevice. He lunged for it too late as it went past him, and he lost his grip. A fraction of a second after he let go, Serra grabbed his wrist and beganpulling him up. The far wall of the chamber completely caved in as he threw one leg up onto the floor. She pulled with all her might as the skull from one of the dead bodies rolled past him into the chasm. He got to his feet and leaned on her, turning back to look at his lightsaber. "Come on! We don't have much time!" She said, as Yarrick reached out with the Force and pulled the lightsaber to his hand. He felt a strange urgency in the Force and he looked up to the ceiling as a large boulder dropped down and the two rushed for a tiny opening in the fallen wall. He pushed Serra through the opening first, and then began to climb through on his own when more of the wall caved in on his leg. She grabbed him by his armpits and yanked him free from the outside and the two fell to the ground and rested as the rest of the tomb caved in behind them.
