And my apologies to the poor PC that has to start out with the ship. "Become your own captain! Earn big money shipping valuable medicines into the thick of battle! call 507.64.2656 for more information..." You called the number. "Free Astromech Droid!" they told you. So what?, you thought. "1500 credits per standard month, plus room & board!" they said after that. You didn't quite sell on that. "Free Ship!", the voice said over the phone, in desperation. "I'm listening," you said. "Armored like a tank! No danger at all!" You sat a little more on the edge of your seat. "All the romance & danger of the smash Tele-vid hits!" You still had your doubts. "Perfectly Legal!" You thought it was too good to be true. But no, it's all true. But still... Thinking back, you wish you would have ignored it. Home wasn't so bad, after all, you think. Looking back, Mom and Dad could have been a little stricter. Heck, you're only in your early twenties. There was still plenty of time to finish your schooling at the Academy. So what if your parents pulled you out early so that you could work in your dad's repair shop? That shop is looking pretty good right now, you think. Oh well, at least you got the free astromech unit when you accepted the job. So what if it's an R5 unit? They're not TOO bad, as droids go. Better than a power droid, at any rate. That is, now that you've turned off his droid vocabulators. His blasted chirping and squawking was driving you insane. At any rate, he can transmit whatever he wants to say to your datapad. It's better than listening to him. And, you can easily silence him. Thank the maker for that; that uppity philanthropic know-it-all droid sure can get on your nerves. I wonder who programmed him to know philosophy, of all things... But you had a sinking feeling that what precious little good luck you had was soon to be gone when you were brought to the abandoned orbital shipyard where you were to pick up your ship. At least your transit was nice -- the grizzled captain was almost apologetic to you. I wonder why... The ship you're to be captain of, it's a Mark I. They hadn't been made since the time before your birth. Golly, that's an old wreck. Wasn't there something wrong with the hyperdrive? Naw, MSR probably got that fixed by now... Still, this ships a rusty old hulk. Hopefully I can trade it in. Hey, where's my transit going? At least it starts up. These Mark I's were trusty and rugged, in their day, if you recall correctly. You grudgingly haul in the huge boxes that the transport captain left behind. Supplies, tools, personal equipment, and a heavy fusion reactor. I guess I might as well install the new reactor, now's as good as a time as any... After that, I think I might just test it out... I'm sure it'll work...
