It's introduction after the Corellian Incident has changed the tide of battle for New Republic forces as soon as they showed up. Their incredibly fast hyperdrive allows them to be advance attack forces, as well as catch up with enemy forces that are fleeing. However, this very new hyperdrive technology didn't come without a price: there is a 1 in 6 chance that the hyperdrive will fail, bringing the ship out of hyperspace. The reason behind this is due to Han Solo's interesting hyperdrive, which we constructed the "Eloquent" model. The Falcon's hyperdrive was created by Imperial engineers who apparentely did not finish it, and Solo has had some trouble with it because of it (Hoth being a good example). But the advantages outweigh the disadvantages - the "Eloquent" is a fine class, and can be produced by the Mon Cal shipyards at a rate of one a month, the starfighters taking another month for every 12 built.
