The time setting is eighteen months prior to CT. Key points: Kyp Durron has made Jedi Master quite young and is now teaching. He never had that business with Exar Kun, so he found a much better way of dealing with the Dark Side. ------ The previous night's festivities over and done with, Luke retreated to his apartment, which was starting to look rather vacant. A short concluding ceremony had officially handed over the headmaster's reins to Kyp (whoops, Jedi Master Durron), who had decided to stay on Yavin for several years. The truth was, Luke was getting a bit wistful over the wide gulfs between he and the rest of his family; there was also the small issue that Yavin was a rather long haul from any of the usual trade routes, which meant that Mara spent a lot more time away than either she or Luke really wanted. Mara and Luke had both agreed that keeping the space on Yavin was a good idea, but neither of them really wanted to leave much there. With considerable help from Tralkpha and Torve, they'd packed most of their worldly possessions aboard the Jade's Fire and were now spending their last few days on Yavin living on a futon that Mara had always wanted to burn for firewood. As it so happened, Luke was also leaving his X-Wing; Wedge had pulled some strings at FreiTek and Luke had one of those fancy black T-71s waiting for him on Coruscant. Mara was in the kitchen, munching on a piece of something, one of those Yavin food plants that everyone knew was safe but nobody had ever bothered to name. "We're all set, Mara." "You know, Luke, as little time as we spent here together, I think I'm going to miss the place." Adol had once commented that Luke and Mara seemed to have a permanent residence in hyperspace; this wasn't too inaccurate. "Hey, at least you get to spend some time with the rest of the family, right?" Luke pointed out. "And Leia's cooking." "What is it with you and Leia's cooking? I've never met anyone who could make such a perfect Alderaanian Shelvara Casserole. And I've had some good shelvaras." Mara actually adored her sister-in-law's cooking; just like the stuff she'd had back when the Imperial Palace was the Imperial Palace only much better. "Oh, no..." "What?" "Forgot to get something for Anakin. I may as well just let him loose on the Fire when we get back." "Are you sure about that?" Luke was a little surprised by that remark. "He knows his way around a toolbox better than most Tinnell mechanics I've met," Mara reflected. "Not too much into hacking, but he'll fix it if it's broke." By this time they'd meandered into the bedroom. Mara collapsed onto the futon, with Luke following close behind and landing rather messily on top of her. "I love you, Farmboy," cooed Mara quietly. "Hold it..." Luke said suddenly. "What? What did I..." "No, just something Han told me. Seems he and Leia have a long track record of having the mood spoiled." Mara ran her fingers through Luke's hair. "I don't think that happens all that much to us, does it?" mused Mara. At that moment, there was a loud knock on the door. "So much for that interlude," said Luke. He and Mara got up and went to the door. It was Torve. "We're all set, Skywalkers. Are you ready?" After a moment of looking at each other, they both confirmed it. "Got the lighter, Luke?" asked Mara mischievously. "I don't know, Mara, maybe we should take the futon."
