It's set ten years after ROTJ and some time after the (not so good) Anderson Jedi Acadmy books.I appologise in advance for the badd speeling mifakes and grammer, if there's some I missed. I also need feedback, if you don't like it tell me, if you do tell me. If the dont's outnumber the do's then I'll stop posting it Share and Enjoy Colin Liberator - Chapter One. The Imperial class Star Destroyer rumbled out of the nebula and lazily turned to face a new star. It's turbolazers turned as they performed their routine sweeps and lights on the ship seemed to brighten as the watch began to change. On the Bridge, a lieutenant in the crew pit turned from his console and started to make his way to the main Command Console on the upper bridge deck. He looked about for his superior but couldn't see him. "Blast. How come you can never find your major, when you need him." he thought. "Is there a problem lieutenant ?" came a voice from behind him. The lieutenant started and turned to face the Captain. "Umm, No Sir.", He stammered, "I have a report to make to Major Harim." The Captain was not a tall man, slightly shorter than the lieutenant but stocky and very aware of the younger man's unease. "Very Well Lieutenant Borsham, Report please!" "Sir, we have a sensor contact bearing 0.23 degrees. Its configuration is that of a ship the size of the Liberator and she's holding position. Sir!" Borsham passed the Captain his datapad. The captain examined it and then turned to helm. "Helm, Hold here. " he ordered, "Communications, Signal the Guardian, Inform the Inquisitor we have found the Quarry and are awaiting instructions." He didn't wait for the acknowledgements, his crew knew better than that. "Lieutenant, return to your post and monitor the Liberator, If that ship as much as twitches I want to know about it." "Sir !" Borsham turned and started his walk back to the crew pit. The Captain turned and walked to the main viewport. "Let's see them get out of this one." He muttered. * * * Tafflarian StarChaser sat at his gun turret and sighed. The same old stars stared straight back at him. He cursed his luck for what seemed the thousand time. He let his turret drift to the left and bring the rest of the Liberator into view. Even after all this time, he still marvelled at the ship's construction. It was 300 metres to the other wingtip, where he could see the other turret turn slowly doing it's own sweep. The Liberator looked to Taff, like a giant bird of prey , much like the Corrialian Hawks he remembered as a child, but the colour scheme of gold, red and orange gave the ship a unique look. Where it's talons should be, there were two large ion cannons, and there were other weapons, that weren't as obvious as the turrets and the ion cannons that were visible. It was the most powerful ship he had ever been on and it was one of a kind. It was also the only home he had for the last seven, or was it eight, years. Taff cursed at that again, they had been stuck for the last two years, in the same quadrant, all seven of them had. They weren't sure where they were, but they'd been trying to get home for the last two. In all his years in the Scout service he had never seen anything like it. The worlds they had come across had no sentient life, even the ones that could support it. Nothing more evolved than insects and plants. Suddenly he noticed that the star's had stopped moving. They had stopped. "Now What ? " He thought, with a sigh of irritation. The comm. cracked at him. "Taff, Sash, We've got something here!, Can you come to the Bridge please?" Onia`s voice filtered through the channel as Taff undid his seat buckles. And left his chair. Walking up the corridor to the intersection, he could see Sash walking down the opposite passage way. "Fancy meeting you here ? " Taff smiled. "Really ? Wonder what's up?" Sash said. They met at the intersection and turned passed the living quarters and toward the bridge. "Sledge probably wants our option on something, what's out next move and so on ...." "Damn bad timing though," Sash muttered, "I had a sensor ghost for a second, I was just about to check the system." "Probably another bug." agreed Taff. They walked through the big double doors onto the bridge. Everyone was there, Tor the engineer and courageously challenged, Flach the wookie scowling at the view port, as was Sledge and Onia. Polgara on the other hand was staring intently at the sensors, looking very puzzled. On the view screen the expanse of space was visible, but one part of the screen shimmered with a cool blue light and looked as if the space around it, was bent. "Seen anything like it ? " asked Sledge as they walked in the room. "Nope !" said Sash. "your the scout Taff?" Taff looked at the distortion and frowned. Sledge began tapping his lightsabre on the command seats arm. "He always does that when he's stuck for idea's. " thought Taff. Tor gave Sash and Taff his best 'we're in trouble' look and turned back to the viewscreen. "No." Taff replied. "Sensor's ? " Onia Asked as she turned to Polgara. "Sensor readings are off the scale, " Polgara relied as she looked up from the sensor display, "What ever that is, it's like a pot of energy about to boil over!" "Any Suggestions ? " Asked Sledge. There were blank looks on everyone's faces as the distortion spat out a bolt of energy away from the ship. "Shields ? " said Onia. Sledge nodded at Polgara, who flipped a switch. Something on the sensor display caught Polgara`s attention. "I've got more bad news, fella`s!" she announced, "The output from that thing overloading the active sensors, they're burning out." "Pull Back to 100k and Tor see to the Actives." Sledge ordered, "meanwhile Polgara switch to full passive sensors, not as good but we'll have to make do." With that, Onia sat down at the Helm console and started to move the ship back. Tor got up from his engineering display and walked passed Taff and Sash, muttering something about droid short circuits, while Polgara adjusted the sensors. Taff walked over to Flach, while Sash sat down at engineering. The Wookie growled a low greeting and turned back to the weapon console. It was from here the Liberator's arsenal of weapons could be unleashed. The Wookie looked very tired. He barked his opinion of the situation. "Yeah, I don't like being blinded either." said Taff, "but we've got no choice have we ?" Flach growled an affirmative and turned back to his console. Taff turned to Sledge and walked next to the command seat. "Well, Now what?" he asked. "I've got no idea." replied Sledge. "We're now blind, and without those sensor's we can't hyperspace out of trouble." "So it's a case of wait and see then !" said Taff. "I don't like it anymore than you do. Like I said, I am open to suggestions." Taff sighed while Sledge turned back to the veiwsrceen. The distortion eased away from them as Onia fired the reverse thrusters. The ship glided back and came to a gentle stop. "Dead on 100k!" announced Onia, "Not bad for your average bimbo pilot eh? Taff" Taff cleared his throat, "Eerm wouldn't know what you mean!" Onia turn back to the screen to hide her smile. She once overheard Taff boast about his piloting skill, but as Onia showed him, more than once, there's more to piloting than having a big mouth. "Got the Actives On Line !" came Tor`s voice over the com. "Full Sweep Polgara please" Sledge asked. Polgara activated the Sensors and swore. "Contacts !! 20 plus, eta one minute till they have range!" "Tactical !" Ordered Taff Flach activated the weapons console and pulled up the tactical onto the screen. Everybody could see they were surrounded. There were enough indictor cruisers to stop any jump to hyperspace and the Star Destroyers, which were escorting the Super Class Star Destroyer, where bearing directly down on them. Trake - the name didn't even need to be mentioned. It was an excellently planned and executed closure net and only Trake could have made it happen. Everyone on the bridge looked at Sledge. "Fire escape ? " asked Taff. "No good, they open up with ion cannon, we're dead in the water" replied Sledge. Flach growled from the weapons console. "Good." replied Sledge "Arm Proton torpedoes, ion cannons and keep the wing assault handy." Taff noticed the strain in Sledge's voice. There was always seemed to some sort of regret when he had to fight. As far as Taff was concerned, they shouldn't have picked a fight in the first place. Looking around the odds looked daunting but there was always a way out of these situations. Tor dived in through the bridge doors and hit the seal. The doors locked in close position and everyone was now on the bridge, for better or worse. "ETA 30 seconds." called Polgara. "Polgara, angle the shields to cover the ship. Onia take us to the far indictor cruiser, that's the weak link. Flach, target the indictor with torpedoes, we won't have time if they miss" Sledge's orders came quick and fast. The rumbling from the lower decks increased as the engines were opened up. They're speed increased and the ships ahead started to grow in size. "We're in the indictor's range." yelled Paul. "Evasive!" ordered Sledge. Onia pulled on the controls and the Liberator began to roll as blue streaks began to appear from the indictor cruiser. Some of the smaller bolts hit the huge wings of the Liberator causing mild vibrations throughout the ship. "Ion Cannon !", whisper Sash, "Damm, they want us alive!" "Power level's dropping. down to 80 %" called Tor Flach Barked. "Fire Torpedoes and the break high right." ordered Sledge. The wookie hit the fire key and then Onia pulled the controls round. Two streaks flew from the liberator's underside and headed for the Indictor cruiser. The turbolasers on the Indictor opened up on the torpedoes. One exploded in a bright shower, the other hit the Indictor amidships. The liberator danced in-between the blue bolts that were showering it "I don't know how long I can keep this up." said Onia "Damage report on that Indictor. " Sledge looked at Polgara. "Structurally sound, 40% loss in power, no shields." relied Polgara "Turn and hit it again. " ordered Sledge. "The rest of the Fleet is in range, they're firing Ion Only" yelled Polgara. A blue fire storm appeared around the Liberator as the rest of the Fleet fired. Bolt after Bolt hit the twisting ship as it tried to escape. "Power levels 30% and dropping." Yelled Tor, "We haven't enough to power a hyperspace jump." "Shut everything down!" Ordered Sledge. "YOU WHAT !! " Yelled Tor, "YOUR CRAZY !!" "Do it Tor. Now" Sledge looked on the verge of screaming at him. The lights on the Liberator died and the ship began to slow down and drift. As if in answer, the blue hail of ion cannon from the Fleet stopped and the super class cruiser began to close. "How much power do we have ? " Asked Sledge. "Maybe 20 - 25% percent, but I don't know what that can do." "Distance to the Guardian ? " Sledge asked Polgara. "Passive sensors say 300k and closing." "Distance to the distortion ? " "250 K, It's only 70k from the Guardian." "Right then, Onia, use thrusters to point us at the distortion. Make it look as if we're drifting otherwise they'll catch on to what we're doing and won't bother with the taking us alive bit. Flach, I want you to target the distortion with the wing assault, and wait for my order." Taff was beginning to see what Sledge wanted to do. "Going out with a bang huh? " he said. "They've got us !" said Sledge, "All we can do now is take as many with us as possible." "Well, It nice knowing you all" said Taff. The ship slowly turned as both the massive bulk of the super class destroyer and the distortion came into view. Sledge and Onia exchanged glances, Tor quivered. Polgara seemed to hold her breath. Sash, Flach and Taff just looked at each other, with resignation. A cross hair appeared on the screen and started to slowly move round towards the distortion. The distortion caste an eerie blue glow , covering the bridge. "Their tractor beams are powering up." said Polgara. "Come on, get round." muttered Taff. The cross hair came to rest on the distortion. "They're locking on." "Fire " said Sledge and then he closed his eyes. Flach growled a farewell and hit the small red button. The Liberator's leading wing-edges began to glow white. The Guardian responded by changing course and sporadic turbolazer blasts streaked from the Guardian to the Liberator, rocking the smaller ship. Liberator spat a large beam, the size of it's wingspan. towards the distortion and hit it dead centre. The distortion turned from blue to white and expanded in size. It enveloped the Liberator and the Guardian and went to include the entire fleet and then vanished. There was nothing left to say that the Liberator or the entire Imperial fleet had every been there. Liberator - Chapter Two. 'TRAKE !' Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master, woke with a start and was pulled back into his seat by his safety harness. He blinked to clear his vision and let out a breath he didn't realise he was holding. Artoo-detoo noticed his master's awakening and whistled the obvious question. "Yes Artoo, I'm fine." He replied, "Dunno what woke me though." Luke looked out of the X-wing's canopy and took a good look. Ahead was Coruscant, the new republic's Capital, and home of his closest family. The planet looked a lot better than the devastation it had suffered in the last few years, but from up here you couldn't see the damage. The time had come that, he present his monthly report to the Senate and also to visit his sister and deputy-head of the republic, Leia Organa Solo. The fact that Han Solo and Chewbacca would also be there was, of course, an added bonus. His trainees at the Academy on Yavin 4 were friends as well as students but family was something else. "Artoo? " The droid bleeped a reply. "Have we got any clearance yet ?" A negative chip followed. "Oh Well." sighed Luke, "They must still be interferance from the battle wreckage from around orbit." The x-wing glided towards the planet, in the distance hundred specs of light dashed here and there as they dashed on private errands of their own. They darted through the massive amount derelict ships that were still in orbit. "Attention X-wing. We have you on our screen's now. Please state your reason's for visiting Coruscant." Came a voice over the communications. "This is X-wing 10549. Requesting permission for clearance to the Republic Palace. Code Alpha, Demogran." "OK 10459, please transmit your clearance code !" "transmission commencing .!" Artoo chirped an observation as Luke hit the switch to transmit. "No Artoo, We're not trying to duck under a shield this time." He smiled to himself. He could almost hear Han telling Chewie to fly casual. "Control to X-Wing, 10459. You have clearance. And Jedi Skywalker, I can put you to the top of the waiting list?" "No. Thank you, Control. I'll wait my turn." "O.K. You've got to wait three hours, I'll call when it's your turn. " "Thank you, Control." It appeared to Luke, that after all he'd fought for, nobody should jump the queue no matter who they are. Only if it was a matter of life and death would it be nessecery to jump a queue, otherwise he would wait in line even if he was offered another place. "OK Artoo. You can shut down for a while. I'll take it from here." The droid bleeped an affirmative and left Luke to his thoughts. "Why does the name Trake seem familiar ?" * * * ".... and then Garm just told him what the report said and you should have seen that Bothan`s face drop. " They were sat in Leia's office. Leia poured the tea while going over the latest gossip from the sub committees. The spacious office was filled with gifts from various cultures, either as tokens of thanks to her for her work or as attempted bribes (all of which failed but they let her keep the gifts anyway). Luke was stood looking out of the window at the city, hands clasped behind his back. It was still called Imperial City, the name just stuck. He assumed the republic would get round to that eventually. He relised that Leia had just spoke to him. "Yes, fun eh?" Leia looked at Luke and smiled. "Luke, I got the feeling that I'm not holding your entire attention." "I guess, I had a bad feeling on the way here, It's probably nothing though." He said as he turned from the window. Leia pointed to a seat opposite her. "A bad feeling ?" Leia became concerned. "Luke you're 'Bad feelings' normally means something more than nothing. Any idea what about ?". "Err, well." Luke seemed distant. He sat down and took a sip from his tea. "Does the name Trake mean anything to you ? " "Trake ! No Why ?" "That's the bad feeling. There's something attached to the name and it not pleasant. What's worse it's familiar, but I can't remember where from." Leia looked at her brother. This was no bad feeling, it was something worse than that, she could sense that much but still best not to push a point. She saw him quickly down his tea. "I guess you'd better get ready for your report. I'll be here when your ready. " "The report's ready. I think I'll go to the archives, there might be something there. When's Han, Chewie and the children back ? " "Should only be a couple of hours." said Leia, "I'll sent them to you if you like." "No, it's OK. I know when they'll get here. So I'll pop up later. " With that, Luke stood up and left. Leia turned and looked over at the work she had to do that lay waiting for her on her desk. There were some times she wished she was back on the Falcon running away from a Star Destroyer, even when the Hyperdrive was broken. She picked up the data pad and started writing. * * * Luke's eyes were sore. He'd been looking at a computer screen for far too long. The room he was in was one of the libraries access rooms. It was small, dank and had a faint smell of ozone. He rubbed his eyes and opened them to see Han Solo looking down at him. "I thought you said 'You'd know if we'd got here.' ?" Han asked. "How long have I been down here ? " Luke asked. "Only five or six hours more than you should." replied Han, "something up? " "Dunno ? " "You mean you've spent eight hours on a 'Dunno'" Luke smiled, "Yeah, one of these crazy Jedi Things, I guess." Han smiled back. The computer console behind him bleeped with the retrieval call. "Last One. " Said Luke. The computer screen blipped to life and a profile appeared on the screen. Luke took one glance and gasped. This was it, he read over the details and downloaded it to the datapad he was carrying. "Limisus Trake - Imperial Grand Inquisitor - Missing presumed Dead !!" announced Han, "You're worried about this ?" "Yes. I've got to have a word with General Madine at some point" said Luke. He picked up the datapad and stood up. "Madine ?" "He filed these reports." Luke pointed at the reports on the Datapad. "He's away on leave for a couple of days. Come on. The kids want to see their Uncle Luke and I don't think I can fend them off much longer." They both left the access room and started to walk down the corridor, past more access rooms. "Well, it looks like I'm here until Madine gets back." said Luke. "Why, you wanting to be elsewhere ? " Han sounded a little hurt. "No, it's just this feel's urgent." Luke said. "Anyway 3PO`s cooking dinner and if there's one thing I've discovered. He's much better at cooking than talking. I think he's practising on the kids." "He'll blame Artoo, if anything goes wrong." "Yeah, isn't it nice that some things never change." said Han Solo. too be continued ????? -- Quote of the Year "I plan to Live forever or die trying" Phoenix D'fire
