SWRPG Aliens
Eric David Lichtenstein - Sat, 25 Mar 1995 21:25:07 -0500 (EST)

For those of you who care, I am using the aliens not as a race from their own planet, as in the books and the movies, but as a genetic experiment gone _really_ wrong. Now, keep in mind these aliens are not plush little Barney aliens, these guys kick some major ass.

In my world they are meant to be a small invasion/infestation in the sector for a while, to put some added stress in the PC's lives. Once again, these guys are _not_ for the faint of heart. I usually don't throw more than 2 or 3 adults at my PC's at a time.  Anyway, for better or for worse, I present, ALIENS!

We'll start small and work up to the big things...

Egg Pods
These are small, oval shaped leathery pods of about 2 feet in height. They contain one Facehugger each(see later). They can detect a living presence in or near the pods vicinity. If a lifeform comes within 1 foot of the pod, or remains at a fixed distance away from the pod for a few hours, the pod will open and release a Facehugger. If there are more than one pod in the area, only one pod will open per lifeform. Lifeforms include _all_ lifeforms that could support the alien egg. The pods instinctively know what types of life(most) will support their eggs, and will not open for forms that will not support their life.

Facehugger
These are small, 8 legged spider-like aliens. Their main bodies are about a foot long and wide, and their tails extend for another 4 feet. Their only purpose, once having been released from an Egg pod, is to find a lifeform and attach itself in such a place that it can plant it's egg. They will relentlessly search after a lifeform to lay it's egg. Once attached, the Facehugger will remain there for about 18 hours, laying it's egg. After the egg is layed, the Facehugger will detach itself and die.

Note: Any attempt to take a Facehugger off a victim after it has been in place for more than an hour will result in serious destruction of the victim's digestive tract, and will most likely result in death, unless done in a fully staffed medical facility by beings with a Medical Skill of at least 5D.(This does not include the possibility of intervention by some outside power, like the Force.)

Ok, before we move on to the big bugs, a note about Alien birthing methods. If an egg is successfully planted in a host, it will germinate for about a day or two, depending on the amount of activity that the host is doing. More activity, longer gestation period. When the egg is ready to hatch, the host will feel sick to their stomach, and shortly after they will expereince great pain as the Alien begins to move around in the stomach. The Alien will attempt to eat it's way out of it's host, killing the host in the process(most of the host's internal organs are destroyed in this escape process). This entire process, from initial pain to the Alien escaping the host's body can take as short as 10 seconds or as long as an hour.

Baby Alien
This Alien is basically a young version of the adult alien. They are what initally breaks free from a host body. At this stage of development, it is little more than a body and legs. There is very little body development. At birth, if in a hostile environment, it's survival instincts tell it to run and hide, untill it can grow to safer proportions. The Alien will eat anything, and the more it eats, the quicker it grows.

Note: There are many stages of development between the Baby Alien and the Adult Alien. For instance, as Aliens grow older, their Move and Dexterity decrease, while their Strength and Force Powers increase. There's a trade off.

Also, an Alien will grow quicker the more that it eats. An Alien can reach full Adult stage in only a few days if it has enough to eat. However, if an Alien is born away from a Queen, it's Force Powers will develop more slowly and be weaker than those Aliens born near a Queen.

Adult Alien
These are the 'drone' Aliens. They operate as soldiers, gatherers, and whatever else. They are part of the Alien collective mind, and are controlled roughly by their Queen. They act in perfect cooperation with each other, never getting in each other's way. They are perfect soldiers. If a Queen is present, they are always in communication with the Queen and each other. With a Queen, they are even more effective in combat, as every Alien always knows what the others are doing.

They usually do not attack in groups smaller than 6, with at least fully grown drone. They grow to about 3 meters tall, but can operate in areas as small as 1.5 meters.   If no queen is present, they will be slightly less organized for a time until one of the drones evolves into a Queen. If there is a need for this, never does more than one drone evolve.

Queen Alien
This is the mother of all Aliens.(And I mean mother in both senses...) She is major mind in the collective Alien mind. She gives all the orders. There is only one Queen for each hive of Aliens, and the drones of each hive will protect their Queen with their lives. The Queen, at times, grows a birthing tube, through which Egg Pods are laid. The Queen usually grows to about 5 meters tall, with bulk to match. Her bony extensions are usually more pronunced in her than in her drones.

She cares very deeply for her eggs and her drones, and will do anything to protect them. However, she is very clever, and will not be happy if she is forced into a situation she does not like. Think "vindictive bitch".

A special note about Aliens. They bleed acid when cut by knives, vibroweapons, or slugthrowers. The acid, for the first round, does 3D damage to anything that it touches, and corrodes that surface. Every round thereafter, the damage is reduced by 1D.   Blasters and lightsabres cauterize their wounds, and thus no acid is sprayed out or leaked out.

Another note. The aliens have a fear of fire. They will tend to run from fire, because they know of it's dangerous nature. Aliens suffer an additional 2D of damage from any fire-based damage(flamethrowers...etc).

Well, that's it. They are kind of abusive, but hell, if the PC's are stupid enough to wander into a hive...

I tried to stay faithful to the movies and the books(I've never read the comics) with these stats. You may think they are nasty, and they are in groups, but if you have a large group of PCs, then the Aliens will give them a good run for their money.  If you find your players with an overabundance of thermonukes, a few of these guys will solve that problem...:)

Hope you like them!

Eric
